We love LED light for acne and anti-aging. So, if you are lucky enough to have treated with us personally in our clinic, you most likely have received an LED light treatment.
I love to have clients look in the mirror right after we are done completing extractions. Their skin is generally quite red and could even be inflamed in some areas.
We then place an LED light panel over their skin for a 30-minute treatment. It’s unbelievable the change achieved in 30 short minutes.
You often can never tell that they even had extractions, and their skin looks much improved from when they arrived the same day.
It’s really that phenomenal.
What is LED Light Therapy
Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology is the application of light energy to the body for therapeutic benefits. NASA originally developed LED lights for plant growth experiments in space. Similarly to plants, our skin and other body tissues have the ability to absorb light and convert it into energy.
LED light therapy delivers light energy in a similar way plants absorb light energy from the sun. LEDs emit UV-free, beneficial light energy to the skin and have shown great results in wound healing and human tissue growth.
Different wavelengths of light in LED, including blue and red, penetrate the skin at different depths, and this penetration rejuvenates and heals the skin.
The energy delivered by LED has been shown to accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, as well as stimulate the production of collagen.
Research has shown that LED light therapy may help:
- smooth skin texture
- improve skin firmness and resilience
- increase lymphatic system activity
- restore skin’s natural cellular activity
- reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- lighten superficial hyperpigmentation
- reduce inflammation and redness
Blue and Red LED Light
Blue light helps reduce activity in the sebaceous gland and helps kill bacteria. It also has shown to be healing for third degree burns.
Red light improves scarring and signs of aging. Red light acts on cells in the skin known as fibroblasts, which play a role in production of collagen, a protein that makes up a large part of connective tissue and helps the skin to recover when it’s harmed. So, in theory, red light could help to reverse some of the signs related to photoaging in the skin.
Often blue and red light are used in combination to help fight acne — the blue light targeting the C. acnes and the red light targeting inflammation and redness.
LED light treatment is for all skin types, and is non-ablative, non-invasive, painless, and requires absolutely no downtime. After receiving a treatment, patients or clients can return to their normal activity immediately.
Professional LED Lights
There are many LED light panels on the market. We utilize the CELLUMA LED light panel in our clinic with all clients new to our acne clearing program. We find the benefits of using LED after extractions to be phenomenal, and that is why we include it with all treatments in the early stages of clearing.
For clients with severe acne, we do recommend the handheld LightStim for Acne to help expediting clearing and healing. There are varying thoughts about how to incorporate LED light into a skin routine. We suggest using LED light on clean skin without any other serums on your skin. So, cleanse your skin, use your light and then proceed with your regular routine.
We do not recommend any LED light. There definitely is a difference in lights, and we recommend Celluma or Light Stim. Neutrogena recently recalled all of it’s LED Facial Lights for concern over eye safety.
LED light therapy helps those people who want to clear more quickly, but it isn’t required to clear. Most of our virtual clients do not have LED lights at home, and they see phenomenal results by following our strict guidelines and using our skincare routine.
We also retail the CELLUMA LED light panel.
